2005 Shop ConstructionWe decided to use the week between Christmas and New Years to do something constructive . . . literally . . . so we made several trips to Lowe's and enclosed a shop in the basement for Greg. We started Monday afternoon, and finished Wednesday night. It is about 23' long and 12-14' wide, so he will have lots of room to spread out in there. (Note: click on any thumbnail photo to see a larger version, then use your browser's "Back" button to return to this page.)First, here are 5 shots (taken at different points during construction) standing at the bottom of the stairs: These 3 shots are looking from behind the ping pong table (which is covered with a bunch of stuff). The third shot shows the whitewash paneling that we selected for the outside of the shop walls: And these 3 pairs of photos are different angles from inside the shop. The wall between the shop and the storage area are covered on the shop side with 3/8" sheathing plywood instead of sheetrock . . . a little more expensive for the base material, but much more durable and much easier to install. The jog in the wall is to provide plenty of clearance around the furance because it's already 17 years old and needs room to breath. And this is a shot of Beverly and I after completing the above construction. It's been very hard work, and we've still got many things to do, but there sure is a lot of satisfaction involved in doing something like this ourselves! |
