Scramble
(Oct 13-15) |
2nd |
Another very fun weekend for us. We
played reasonably well, although our pitch shots and putting were very
spotty. We managed 3 birdies against 2 bogies on Saturday for a 71,
which tied us for second behind a 70 after 18 holes. On Sunday, we
played a little better (despite getting rained on for several holes and
enduring a 1+ hour delay between holes 8 & 9), but still couldn't make
many putts and shot 70 (4 birdies and 2 bogies), which was good enough for
second behind a 71-68 and ahead of a 142 and a 144. We played with
very nice people all weekend and had a great time.. |

| Fort Dodge (Lakeside) Kate Nelson mixed
best shot
(August 13) |
1st |
It started sprinkling on #16, and was
raining steadily by the time we finished. Some teams were not able
to finish, but our 68 was the lowest score posted so we're counting this
as a successful defense of the title we first won last year (hey, it's not
our fault they aren't mudders). Our 4 birdies and 14 pars
(i.e., no bogies!) was very different than last year, when we only had 7
pars (3 bogies, 7 birdies and an eagle). Matt and Jerry played in
the men's division and we had a really fun day! |

| Ida Grove 2-ball
(August 12) |
1st |
You gotta love a golf course with a
medieval theme ... not to mention a fun layout and friendly people.
We played well but we could only muster one birdie to go with 3 bogies and
a double. Still, our 74 was 5 better than the second place team and
7 better than third. We played with two very nice couples from Sioux
City and had a great time. |

| Newell 2-ball
(July 23) |
1st |
We continued our good play from yesterday,
and were pleased to get the same result. Only 3 birdies on the good
side, but only 2 bogies and a double on the bad side for a 37 + 36 = 73.
Second place was 75, shot by a father-daughter team that has been beating
us pretty regularly at Newell the past few years, and that made the
victory even sweeter! |

| Spring Lake 2-ball
(July 22) |
1st |
We played *much* better than we did the
last time we played here two years ago, and we were rewarded accordingly.
We made 7 birdies, which almost countered our 3 doubles and 2 bogies, for
a 36 + 37 = 73. Second place was 81. We also won our
respective long drive awards, which may have been the first time in our
history that we both hit long tee shots in the fairway on the same hole! |

| West Bend 2-ball
(July 9) |
3rd |
This was Greg's first time at West Bend.
Interesting course with a decent amount of variety. The fairways
were very hard which really shortened up the course, and we played a
little better than the previous day and shot 36+35=71 (2 bogies & 3
birdies). 70 was second, and somebody actually shot 63 (!?!) to win
the tournament ... they should be ashamed of themselves. |

| Lake City 2-ball
(July 8) |
1st |
Four bogies and two birdies (36+36=72) was
the best we could muster (two strokes worse than last year), but it was
good enough for the victory (and 10 yummy ribeyes!). Lake City's
green's are very small, and we missed a lot of them, but our chipping and
putting was decent and we finished the day with only 24 putts.
Second place was 76. |

| Columbia (MO) Country Club His & Hers
Scramble
(June 23-25) |
10th |
We didn't play too badly, but just couldn't
get the ball close enough to make many birdies, and we only made a couple
putts >10'. Beautiful weather, an interesting course, and nice
people to play with. We had 3 birdies and a bogie (3-putter, ugh) on
Saturday for a 69, which just barely qualified us for Championship Flight.
On Sunday, Championship Flight had to move back one set of tees, but we
played about the same, getting to -3 at one point before limping in with a
70 (4 birdies and 3 bogies, including another 3-putter ... argh!).
The winners shot 124 (!?!) and second was 126. |

Scramble
(June 9-11) |
Buried |
We struggled quite a bit on Saturday, and
only slightly less on Sunday ... our problem on Saturday was ball
striking, while on Sunday our biggest problem was making putts. Our
opening 73 (3 bogies and 2 birdies) put us in the bottom of "A" Flight (it
took 70 to make Championship Flight), and our 70 on Sunday (3 birdies and
1 bogie) put us tied for 5th in A Flight. |

Fort Dodge American Legion 2-couple Best Shot
(June 4) |
2nd |
This was essentially a mixed 4-person best
shot. The American Legion course is an interesting par 37 layout
with three par 5's back-to-back-to-back in the middle of the nine.
Debbie and I were joined by Janelle and Matt and we had a good time.
We managed 4 birdies on each nine for a 66, but the winners shot 65. |

| Newell 2-ball
(June 3) |
T-2nd |
As with last year, this was essentially a
"true 2-ball", with the ladies hitting the tee shots on the odd holes and
the men hitting them on the even holes. We struggled a bit on the
first nine, and we never really putted well, but we played better on the
second nine and shot 40-36. First place was 71. |
