| Ledgestone Golf Course (Branson, MO)
Last Chance Couples Tournament (scramble)
(Oct 13-14)
|
T-9 |
A fun par 71 course, and an absolutely
perfect weekend for golf (70's and sunny all three days). We started
hot on Saturday, birdying the first three holes and holding on for a 67.
Sunday morning brought a 7:45 am shotgun for A and B flights and it took
us a while to get loose as we bogied three of our first 11 holes and
limped to a 72 (139 total). The winners shot 128. Perhaps the
biggest disappointment (and surprise?) of the weekend was the fact that we
played the par fives +1 for the weekend (five pars and a bogie) ... ouch
... while we played the par threes -1 (seven pars and a birdie). |

| Sac City (IA) Ryder Cup (Sep 23) |
2nd |
Another beautiful day, and a more standard
ryder cup format -- 9 holes best shot, 9 holes best ball, and 9 holes
alternate shot (strict) ... only two other women in the field, and they
were on the same team ... we shot 33-38-38 (109) (Greg had some problems in the
best ball, but played better in the alternate shot) and finished second to
a 104 (by the team that has won this event the past few years) ... there
were several highlights: Greg sank a wedge on #1 for an eagle during
the best shot, Debbie birdied #8 in the best ball, and we birdied #1 & #3 in
alternate shot ... we had a very good time. |

| Twin Lakes (IA) Ryder Cup (Sep 22) |
4th |
A beautiful day ... the course was still
showing the effects of flooding last month but was quite playable
nonetheless ... sort of a modified ryder cup format ... 9 holes best ball,
then 9 holes alternate shot (selective tee shot), then 9 holes best shot
... only one other woman in the field, so we didn't go in with any great
expectations ... it was a long 7-hour event and we shot 32-37-31 (100) with a
rather ugly triple (or is that redundant?) in the middle nine ... 2nd and
3rd shot 95's, and the winners shot 92, so we did well to finish 4th. |

| Lakeside (Fort Dodge, IA)
Kate Nelson mixed best shot
(August 12)
|
2nd |
We hit the ball quite well for the most
part, but I don't think we made a putt over 6 or 8 feet all day. We
could only manage 3 birdies and we slipped up for a bogie on #15. So
we continued our trend of shooting worse every year in this tournament (-6 in 2005 and -4
last year). We don't know the winning score, but it was supposedly
only "1 or 2 shots" better than ours. In the group behind us Lynn
played with Jerry and Matthew played with Angie to make it a family
affair! |

| Lost Island (Ruthven, IA)
2-ball
(August 11)
|
1st |
A very short course way up in NW Iowa
someplace ... converse to last weekend, the biggest green was about the
size of our living room, and they probably would have measured about 1.5
on the stimpmeter. We were hot and cold all day, carding 7 birdies
against 3 bogies and a double, but it was good enough for the victory! |

| Sedalia (MO) Country Club Mixed Scramble (Aug 4-5) |
9th |
Interesting course ... absolutely gigantic
greens (we had a putt that we stepped off at over 100 ft!). We played pretty well on
Saturday ... 6 birdies (including a string of 5 birdies in 6 holes when
Debbie's putter got hot) with no bogies for a 64 ... and in a shocking
display of accurate long-ball hitting, both Debbie and Greg won their
respective long drive awards! But the payback came on Sunday as the long ball let us
down big-time and we took numerous penalty strokes off the tee, suffering
through 3 bogies and a double bogie against only 3 birdies for a 136 total.
The winners shot 116 (59-57 ... holy cow!) and second was 128 (62-66). |

because he forgot his camera ... duh!) |
| West Bend (IA) 2-ball
(July 8)
|
1st |
Wow, what a day ... except for a little
slip on #5, we were playing quite well in spite of spraying our tee shots
everywhere (we never did play a second shot from the fairway all day) and
we were -3 after 13 holes ... but the wind had really whipped up in
between nines and we started leaking oil with bogies on 14, 16, and 17 ...
and then the wheels fell completely off on the last hole as we could only
manage a triple bogie for a 75 ... but it would seem that everyone was
having trouble with the wind and our score was good enough for the win ...
go figure! |

| Lake City (IA) 2-ball
(July 7)
|
1st |
We successfully defended our title without
even a single birdie this year ... the little greens of Lake City
highlighted our less-than-stellar short games once again ... we started
with a couple of pars, followed by a couple bogies, three pars and then
four straight bogies ... but then we settled down and finished with seven
pars for a 76. You gotta love a tournament that gives ribeyes for
first place! |

| Columbia (MO) Country Club His & Hers
Scramble
(June 23-24)
|
10th |
We shot 68 on Saturday, which was just
barely good enough for Championship Flight (again!) ... we had trouble
getting the ball close with our approach shots, and our chipping was not
good at all, but we putted okay for the most part and had no bogies to
offset our 3 birdies. On Sunday, we had to move back one set of
tees, and we did a better job with the approach shots, but didn't putt as
well ... two bogies and two birdies for a 71 and a 139 total (same as last
year). The winners shot 127. |

| Eagle Knoll (Hartsburg, MO)
Bucks & Does Scramble
(June 22) |
2nd |
We stopped by Eagle Knoll on our way back
from playing a practice round at Columbia CC for this fun little 9-hole
event ... we teed off at 6pm and started on #8 ... we avoided making any
bogies, and we birdied 1, 2, and 3 by making some fairly long putts, but
couldn't birdie either of the par 5's and came in a stroke behind a 32
shot by one other couple. (The photo was taken after sunset, which
is why it is a bit washed out.) |

Rice Lake (Lake Mills, IA) 2-ball (June 3) |
T-9 |
This course came highly recommended, and we
weren't disappointed (even though it is almost in Minnesota!).
Unfortunately, we continued our struggles from yesterday and shot an 80 (9
bogies and 9 pars, including two missed 3-footers by Greg on the front
nine). We had to play 6 or 7 holes in a light rain, and the breeze
was worth about two clubs when we were into it, but we still managed to
have a good time. The winners shot 70, followed by a 71, then 77 and
up. |

| Newell (IA) 2-ball (June 2) |
T-2 |
Okay, so we should have known that it was
going to be a tough day when our cart died after the second hole ...
as it turned out, we actually played pretty well on our first nine but
couldn't make many putts and shot 36 ... the second nine was another
story, as we hacked up a storm and actually felt fortunate to limp home
with an 80. Essentially a true 2-ball, as in previous years. A
76 won it. (Greg and Norman fixed the cart that night ... just a
dead battery, fortunately.) |
