| Changes
of plans (again) ... Greg messed up and didn't get the entry submitted to
Lake Valley before the tournament was full, so we played Bear Creek Valley
in the Lake of the Ozarks area on Oct 10, then Eagle Knoll north of Jeff
City on Oct 11, all to prepare for a tournament on Oct 12 ... |

So we lucked out and had great weather for
the whole weekend ... in fact, it got a bit warm and we were even using
sun screen! As nearly as I could tell, there were only about 4 women
in the tournament, so we didn't set our sights to high, but we actually
played pretty well and managed 3 birdies per side against no bogies for a
65 (par is 71) ... there was a 63 and 64 ahead of us, and one other 65.
One of several funny stories: they had designated one hole as the
long drive hole for women, but the women's tee was only 217 yds from a
creek crossing the fairway so Debbie couldn't use her driver! But it
all worked out, as her 5-wood layup was still the longest drive in the
fairway for the ladies that day ... still, it makes one wonder ... |
(no photo - it was
too dark by the time we got done!) |
| Change
of plans ... the Fort Dodge tournament was canceled so Debbie got us back
into the two Ryder Cup style tournaments that we played in last year.
It was a beautiful weekend for golf and we had fun even though Greg was
very rusty from not playing since our last tournament. |

Another gorgeous day ... we struggled all
day and shot 33 (best shot) + 39 (best ball) + 46 (alt shot) = 118 ...
interestingly enough, that was only 4 shots out of 3rd, despite two
triples on our last nine holes. As I recall, 101 won, then 103, 114,
115, & 116 (or something like that). History:

We shot 36 (best ball) + 40 (alt shot) + 30
(best shot) = 106, which wasn't any good, but it was fun and we still
managed to finish in the middle of the pack somewhere. The six
bogies in the alternate shot section were our real undoing. I forget
what the winning score was, but it was pretty low. Lynn and Matt
also played, which helped make it a family affair!

It was a brutally hot weekend, with heat
indices well above 100°F and very little breeze. We struggled both
off the tee and on the green all weekend and could only manage 68-70,
which buried us in the second flight (about 26th place overall) ...
3 birdies and a bogie Saturday, and two of each on Sunday ...
interestingly, we played the par 3's in -1 and the par 5's only -2 for the
weekend (leaving +1 for the par 4's, for those keeping score at home).

Similar to Lake City the day before, we
continued our upward trend in scoring at West Bend this year, shooting
39-38 (77), but it would seem that the windy conditions made it tough for
everyone and we successfully defended our championship despite 7 bogies
against only 2 birdies. History: 1st (75) in
2007, 3rd (71) in 2006 |

So the streak is broken ... after finishing
no worse than T-1 in the last three years at this tournament, we struggled
a bit this year but still came in 3rd behind a 73 and 77. We shot
38-41 (79) with 2 birdies, 5 bogies, and 2 doubles! But then again
they stopped giving ribeyes for first place this year, so maybe we just
weren't motivated enough ... yeah, that's our excuse!

Scramble
(June 28-29)
|
Buried (but won B flight!) |
We struggled on Saturday and could only
manage 14 pars and 4 bogies for a 75 ... it seems that most teams had some
problems as there was only one score below 68. On Sunday we played a
bit better, eagling #1 and birdying #9 and #15, but we slipped up on #5
with a double bogie and then bogied #18 coming in as well for a 70.
Fortunately for us, the shoot-up number in our flight was 6 and our 145
held up to win the flight, so while we were not exactly proud of our
performance, we were very happy to accept our first winnings ever in this
tournament.
As with previous years, we played with some very nice folks both days.

We were lucky that they happened to
schedule this for the same weekend as the Columbia tournament once again.
We couldn't really get it going and managed just one birdie and 8 pars.
A 32 and two 34's finished ahead of us, and there was one other 35.
History: We shot 34 in 2005 (1st) and 33 last year (2nd). |
