T-3 |
There were only about 3 or 4
teams with women on them, so we were pleased to tie for 3rd. We had
5 birdies and a bogie on the front, but then struggled in the wind on the
back (very few trees to block the wind on the back) and could only manage
two birdies. A couple of young guys shot 62, and second was 65.

3rd |
On our first nine, we were even
after 7, but then went bogie-double to shoot 38 ... similarly, on our
second nine we were -2 after six and then bogied the last three for a 36.
The winners shot 70. (One interesting fact: our eclectic score was
33 (-2), even with bogies on the last two holes!)

The tournament was originally scheduled for
the previous week, then moved due to a scheduling problem, then canceled
because they didn't get enough teams to enter. But they offered us a
package, so we rented a cabin and went up and played anyway. The
wind was brutal and it was quite hot, but we managed to have fun anyway
;-)

T-9
(T-1 in 1st Flight) |
On Saturday we started on #5 (a
par 5) and Debbie hit Driver + 3 Wood to the back edge of the green for an
easy birdie ... and we were -3 after 8 holes, but could only play the last
11 at even par. We hit only 3 of 12 fairways for the day, so 67
wasn't really a bad score ... and fortunately 66 was the high score in
Championship Flight. Sunday was the opposite ... we started on #7
and were only -1 through 11 holes, but then finished with 4 birdies in the
last 7 holes for a 65, which ended up being good enough to tie for first
in the 1st Flight. 121 won the tournament.

T-2 |
Like the previous day, we
struggled early, with two bogies and a double in our first four holes ...
we birdied #5 before running off 5 pars, followed by two more birdies, and
we thought we were on our way ... but then we bogied three of the last six
holes (against only one birdie) for another 75 (39 - 36), which was again
one stroke too many.

2nd |
We struggled a bit for most of
the day, leaking oil to +6 after 15 holes (no birdies). Then Greg
hit a big tee-shot on the par 5, and Deb hit a 4-iron to about 6 feet for
an eagle, and we birdied the 17th, and Deb made great putts on 16 and 18
for a 75 (39 - 36), which was only one stroke back. (Back story:
on the way to the tournament, we ran out of gas about a mile north of
town, and had to pull into a farm driveway, unload the cart, and drive it
into town, arriving at the course just a few minutes before our tee time!
So we're blaming that for our bad start ...)

We could only
manage a 70 on Saturday (3 birdies and 2 bogies), which was unfortunately
good enough to just sneak into the Championship flight with 17 other teams
(including a 63). Sunday was even tougher, and we found ourselves +3
(w/ no birdies!) through 16 holes when a rather nasty storm rolled through
and wiped out the rest of the round, which they backed off to a 27 hole
event. We don't know exactly how we finished, but we're pretty sure
we didn't win anything!

And no, there is not normally a creek
running down the middle of #8's fairway (that's #7 green in the
foreground). |

(June 5-6) |
Buried |
A 73 (including
three 3-putts!) on Saturday put us into B flight, and a 37 on the front
nine on Sunday made it look like a repeat round ... but we finished strong
with 5 birdies on the back nine (including the last three holes) for a 68
that put us T-2 in B flight.
