Sax Lamps

Traditional Saxophones are tough ... they are expensive and have a goofy shape.  Therefore, my only effort to date was on a straight soprano sax provided by the customer.

I made this lamp for a musician in LA ... a very nice guy who had a very cool old soprano sax that he wished to have made into a lamp ... the room in which he planned to place the lamp was decorated mostly in oranges and browns, so he requested a base made of padauk (a.k.a., padouk, paduak, or African Coralwood) similar to the trombone lamp I made the previous summer.  I used an old mouthpiece for the finial, and hid the touch lamp circuitry in the base.  The fifth photo below shows the fabric for the shade, which I special-ordered and had shipped directly to the customer ... the final photo was provided by my shade maker.  (Dec 2007)

Tips for making your own ... I don't have any tips specific to saxes right now, but check out the clarinet and trumpet pages for some general purpose tips.
